ALBORZ Province is 31st provinces of Iran, centered in Karaj.
Alborz Province was formed by division of Tehran Province into two
provinces, after the Parliamentary approval on June 23, 2010.
Situating in northwest of Tehran, it has 4 counties, Karaj,
Savojbolagh, Taleghan and Nazarabad. Karaj as it's seat, is situated 20
km west of Tehran, at the foothills of the Alborz mountains, being the
fifth largest city, with the population of 1,377,450 after Tehran,
Mashhad, Isfahan and Tabriz. Alborz Province is the smallest province of
Karaj is capital of Alborz province; it is situated 20 km west of
Tehran, at the foothills of the Alborz mountains. Karaj had a census in
the 2006, making it the fifth-largest city in Iran after Tehran,
Mashhad, Isfahan and Tabriz. However, the city is increasingly becoming
an extension of metropolitan Tehran. Karaj is mostly famous because of
its academic and educational complexes along with industrial interests.
Main Alborz province cities include Hashtgerd, Hashtgerd New City,
Kamalshahr, Karaj, Mahdasht, Meshkindasht, Mohammadshahr and Nazarbad.
